Success in spades for WaterAid

Just four weeks since launching The Big Dig, WaterAid and The Good Agency have surpassed the £1,000,000 mark of the appeal’s £1.2 million target. If successful, the appeal will bring safe water and sanitation to 134,000 people across rural Malawi.

The Good Agency worked with WaterAid to devise the campaign messaging, direct mail appeals to individual and community audiences, and the campaign website at www.thebigdig.org – which has been launched with well-known blogger, fundraiser and activist AJ Leon.

The Big Dig is designed to close the gap between supporters and beneficiaries. Donors can follow the lives and stories of people in two key communities to see their gifts in action, in real time.

The campaign has grown beyond a standard restricted appeal, with matched funding from DfID and a partnership with the UK radio station network affording WaterAid the perfect opportunity to recruit new donors, reactivate lapsed donors from their database and raise funds in the process.

Initially launched in Westfield with celebrities and a 3D floor painting the campaign will culminate in the live drilling of a borehole in one of the communities in September.
