Elephant Family, the charity dedicated to protecting Asian elephants and their habitat has worked with not-for-profit communications specialists The Good Agency to develop a social media campaign calling for support to put pressure on the government and secure the species’ future.
Elephant Family was behind the hugely successful Elephant Parade London 2010 – the city’s biggest ever outdoor art exhibition. Over 260 specially designed sculptures were seen by over 25 million people and raised over 4 million pounds at auction and through donations. The online campaign, launched today, thanks those who supported the parade and asks them to help generate signatures for an online petition to protect this endangered species.
The Good Agency developed an online video that combines visuals of the intricately designed sculptures, which captured the attention of millions, with moving footage of real-life Asian elephants struggling to cope with the human world around them and a decrease in their natural habitat. Promoted through Facebook and Twitter, the video aims to get 100,000 signatures to deliver to 10 Downing Street, demanding a debate in the House of Commons and ensuring that the issue is heard by the UK government.
Dan Bucknell, Head of Conservation & Campaigns, Elephant Family says:
“Massive population growth and the escalating destruction of habitat are forcing the Asian elephant into ever decreasing pockets of land. They are coming into daily conflict with humans, with suffering on both sides. The Good Agency shares our passion for the cause and we have tasked them with the challenge of creating a campaign that inspires action and, ultimately, government intervention to tackle the issue.”
Reuben Turner, Creative Director, The Good Agency, says:
“Elephant Parade London was a huge success and this campaign will build upon that, raising awareness of the issues behind it and empowering Elephant Family supporters to take action. Only with 100,000 signatures will the government listen and we’ve created a campaign we hope will spread this message far and wide.”
