Energy Savings Trust 2009
The context
The Energy Saving Trust is a Government-funded organisation with a remit to reduce energy consumption in homes and emissions from transport.
The challenge
Ironically, one of the best ways to tell people to save energy at home is to reach them in the workplace.
We delivered highly targeted messages, through proven communication channels, that could be endorsed by a trusted employer. People have a similar energy-saving mindset in the workplace as at home, so the actions they take are relevant in both.
The work
It’s not every day you get an embroidered email. This formed the look – featuring real embroidery – of a set of communications that were warm, friendly and familiar.
We developed a toolkit for CSR and internal communications managers, containing posters, e-mail templates, articles and top tips on energy saving in the home. Tea towels, key rings, mugs and bags were developed so that employees could take the message home and have a constant reminder to save energy. The toolkit was provided on a campaign-branded memory stick.
What's good about it?
The campaign and toolkit have been well received by the companies that we targeted. Anecdotal feedback tells us that the number of employees committing to taking action was higher than anything the companies had done before.
Energy Saving Trust are continuing to work with us to embed the energy-saving message and drive energy saving behavior at home through the workplace using Green Champion Schemes.
