This week 14 inspiring grassroots campaigners were rewarded for their efforts in fighting for social, economic and environmental change at The Sheila McKechnie Foundation Campaigner Awards ceremony, hosted by patron and Channel 4 newscaster Jon Snow.
The awards were presented by a number of leading lights in campaigning including The Guardian’s Paul Lewis, Anna Raeburn and 105 year old Hetty Blower in celebration of campaigners across the categories. The winners, and recipients of bespoke training and development packages to take their campaigning to the next level, are as follows:
Consumer Action award – Sharon Davidson
Environment award – Lauren King
International award – Caroline Lentupuru
Local Campaigner award – Mary Granville-White
London Social Justice award – Vicky Simister
Shout Out! award – Bianca Ilii, Chamodi Kodithuwakku, Chamudi Kodithuwakku, Ruchi Shah and Patrycja Zelezniak
Social and Economic Justice award – Emmanuel Fuh Neba
Take Action award – Kathleen Carter
Transport award – Eugene Ring
Launched in 2005, the awards are open to campaigners from established organisations as well as those campaigning on a voluntary basis, with an emphasis on those that are under resourced and novice.
